Shereen’s Durban Beef Curry
Shereen was kind enough to share her recipe and technique to cooking her absolutely delicious Durban Beef Curry with the members of “We are Durban Curry Lovers”
Follow her easy steps to cook this at home.
Ingredients
- 1.5 kg beef (I used chuck/shin)
- 1 cup fried onion
- 2 Tblsp red ginger/garlic paste
- 3 tsp kashmir chilli pwd
- 2 tsp pure chilli pwd
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp fine dhania
- 1 tsp fine jeero
- 1 tsp gharam masala
- 1 tsp whole jeero seeds
- Few whole cloves +-5
- Few cinnamon sticks
- Salt
- Cooked tomatoes (I had some extra tomato gravy in the fridge)
Instructions
Heat oil enough to cover bottom of pot, add all your spices with onions into pot mix and don’t let it burn add little water if needed, add meat making sure it is covered with spices add a little boiling water let it cook (medium heat)
When meat is nice and soft add tomatoes cook a little more. Now add your potatoes with more water to cook potatoes nice and soft. You will have a nice thick gravy.
Add chopped green dhania and a few green chillis.

I used braising spice and butter for my rice.
Melt butter, add braising spice and salt mix now add your boiling water and rice cook till steamed.
2.5 cups water for 1 cup rice.
No straining
